Pudong Area

The Pudong area where at this very moment the new Shanghai Skyline is built, is not in the existing centre of the city. Pudong is situated east of the Huangpu river that splits Shanghai in two sections. Until 10 years ago, Pudong hosted mainly farmland and a village built in the traditional Chinese architecture style. What ever happened to the people who lived there? Hmm, interesting question to investigate ...

(2005 note: Of course thousands of people had to move from the Pudong area. The Chinese government bought their land and created what now appears to be one of the most vibrant regions in the world, both in an architectural and an economical way. It is amazing with what speed China is developing for the past 20 years, and the Pudong area is the place where this development is visible in an extreme way!)
